| KXMc | Jul 27, 2006 10:32pm | | I was wondering what I need to get a good start playing WoW. I've played MMORPG's before, but never this one. Are there multiple game discs I need to buy? A good manual or how-to book? I don't know anything about the Warcraft universe, but will read up on it from the main site. Thanks in advance for any help... |

The reason I say you need patience is that there is little to no hand holding in World of Warcraft. Asking questions in General Chat usually gets you laughed at by people who probably have no more clue than you. My suggestions would be:
1. Read everything in the beginning. The NPC guards in major cities and starting areas can be right clicked and actually have good info. The game tips are also pretty good, but can get annoying after a while.
2. Look things up in wowwiki.com and thottbot.com. Most quests basically have the info you need in the quest givers description of the quest, but there are times when it just isn't safe to read all of it right then and there. I usually go to a safe place. Alt Tab out and pop the quest name into thottbot's search engine. Usually not only will you find out what the quest needs, but also how best to beat it.
3. Remember the John Gabriel Greater internet Fuckwad Theory. People can be real asses, especially in the first 20 to 30 levels (thats out of 60 by the way). People will try every trick in the book to try to "Power level" (get experience with no work), or cheat you. Be patient and be willing to wait on some things. Most people are none too smart and if you give them enough rope they'll wrap it quite nicely around their own neck and get themselves killed.
4. Sell grey items back to vendors for money. There are many things in the world that cant be used or are aren't very useful. Sell them to General and Trade vendors for coin. Once you master this you'll laugh at anyone that buys gold from gold sellers like IGE. If you're in doubt about how useful something is pop over to Thottbot.com or wow.allakhazam.com and look it up.
That about all I can add. Have fun! |

If you decide you want some Pvp action, you can get plenty on a Normal server via the battleground instances and the occasional organized raid on an enemy city. |
